DFARS 252.243-7002 Requests for Equitable Adjustment

Does the regulation require it to flow down?

No

There is no flowdown paragraph in the text (verified). Primes include it so the sub's REAs come up already certified to the same standard — the prime does not want to sponsor against the government a claim its own sub will not sign

A clause can reach your subcontract without a mandate. Once it is in your document, it is a contract term all the same. The missing mandate is a fact about the regulation. It is not a ruling on your order.

What it makes you produce

2 items for your checklist, slowest first.

  1. Something you write

Days to weeks, and nobody outside your company has to agree to it.

    • The supporting data behind the request — actual and estimated cost for performing the change, indirect cost properly allocable to it, and certified cost or pricing data where FAR 15.403-4 reaches the amount

      DFARS 252.243-7002(c)
  2. Something you fill in and send back

Hours, once you know which one is missing.

    • The certification at paragraph (b), signed with name and title by an individual authorized to certify for the company: that the request is made in good faith and the supporting data are accurate and complete to the best of their knowledge and belief

Owed on a request for equitable adjustment that exceeds the simplified acquisition threshold, at the time it is submitted

      DFARS 252.243-7002(b)

When it is used

Applies in solicitations and contracts, including FAR Part 12, estimated above the simplified acquisition threshold ($350k) — prescription 243.205-71. The obligation triggers when the contractor submits a request for equitable adjustment above the SAT: a certification required by 10 U.S.C. 3862(a), distinct from the claims certification under 41 U.S.C. 7103.

Read closely

Paragraph (a) also keeps out of the request any cost already reimbursed or separately claimed, and requires the amount to reflect the adjustment the contractor believes is actually owed.

Source: acquisition.gov, DFARS 252.243-7002. CODIFIED REGIME, read 2026-08-11 on the part-252 page at DFARS Change 5/7/2026: "As prescribed in 243.205-71, use the following clause:" with designation (DEC 2022). DEVIATION REGIME, read 2026-08-11 in acquisition.gov/sites/default/files/page_file_uploads/DoD_RFO_Deviation_Part-43.pdf (473933 bytes, 9 pages, DARS Tracking Number 2026-O0034, "Effective February 1, 2026, contracting officers shall use"): 243.305-71 reads "Insert the clause at 252.243-7002, Requests for Equitable Adjustment, in solicitations and contracts, including solicitations and contracts using FAR part 12 procedures for the acquisition of commercial products and commercial services, that are estimated to exceed the simplified acquisition" threshold, and the clause head reads "As prescribed in 243.305-71, use the following clause:" with the same designation (DEC 2022). SAME NUMBER AND SAME DESIGNATION, MOVED PRESCRIPTION: 243.205-71 codified, 243.305-71 under the deviation, and the commercial reach survives the move in the deviation's own words. This is research, not legal advice. It states what the regulation says about this clause and cites the paragraph behind it. It does not rule on your order, and it does not rule on whether a prime's markings are correct.
