DFARS 252.244-7000 Subcontracts for Commercial Products or Commercial Services
Deviation number 252.244-7999. DoD Class Deviation 2026-O0015 rewrites DFARS part 244 for the FAR overhaul. It prescribes 252.244-7999 in place of 252.244-7000, so a document written under it can cite 252.244-7999 instead. The two texts can differ. The source at the foot of this page says how.

- 252.244-7000(a)
Nothing to send. The terms of a FAR or DFARS clause may not be pushed into a subcontract for commercial products or services unless the clause itself says so, or it appears on the lists this one names
Owed when you place a subcontract of your own, at any tier, for commercial products or commercial services
When it is used
DoD contracts containing any non-commercial clause.

Paragraph (b)(1) also treats items under $10,000 apiece, bought for use across several contracts and not identifiable to any one of them, as commercial. Which list applies changed on 2026-02-01: the codified text points at FAR 12.301(d), 52.212-5(e)(1) and 52.244-6(b)(1), while the deviation version points at FAR 12.205 and 52.244-6(b). The version the contracting officer has to apply is the one that governs, and the two do not name the same list.

Source: acquisition.gov, DFARS 252.244-7000, codified text read at DFARS Change 5/7/2026, prescribed at 244.403 with designation ( NOV 2023 ) — the page prints thirteen spaces inside each parenthesis and this and every other designation quoted in this base is written with its whitespace folded, so a search of the page as rendered needs this folded form, while a search of the page SOURCE needs the spaces expanded — across the whole part-252 page exactly one designation parenthetical is padded, this one, under every counting rule tried; the TOTAL depends on the rule, and the 577 published here until 2026-08-11 is not reachable under any rule tried. Every count here was re-derived on 2026-08-11 against a fetch of acquisition.gov/dfars/part-252-solicitation-provisions-and-contract-clauses of 2623800 bytes, and each is published with the exact expression that produces it, because the rule and not the number is what a second reader can disagree with. Python re.findall over the page source: \([A-Z]{3} [0-9]{4}\) gives 393; \(\s*[A-Z]{3}\s+[0-9]{4}\s*\) gives 394, the one extra match being this clause's own padded parenthetical; \(\s*[A-Za-z]{3}\s+[0-9]{4}\s*\) gives 403, adding (Oct 2024) six times and (Nov 2024) three times; \(\s*[A-Za-z]+\s+[0-9]{4}\s*\) gives 406, adding (JUNE 2013) three times. All four give the same number on the page source and on the text with HTML tags stripped. Looser rules are deliberately not published, because they are not stable under tag stripping: any parenthetical holding a four-digit year gives 522 on the source and 516 on the stripped text, and a count that moves with the parser is not a fact. Three numbers published here on 2026-08-11 are withdrawn: 406 was labelled as what folding case gives, and folding case gives 403 while 406 is what admitting full month words gives; 412 and 505 were reproduced neither by a second reader nor by this one. A count off a parsed page is itself a fact, and a count whose rule is one sentence away from a different number is not a measurement. RFO class deviation 2026-O0015 (DFARS part 244, effective 2026-02-01) CARRIES THIS CLAUSE UNDER A DIFFERENT NUMBER: 252.244-7000 and 244.403 each appear zero times in it, while 244.470-1 directs a contracting officer to insert 252.244-7999, Subcontracts for Commercial Products and Commercial Services, and the memo prints that clause designated (FEB 2026)(DEVIATION 2026-O0015). READ THIS ENTRY AGAINST ITS OWN changes2025_26 FIELD, WHICH SAYS THE DEVIATION RESTATES THE CLAUSE AND DOES NOT SAY THE NUMBER MOVED: every other element of that sentence is true of 252.244-7999, including the rewrite of (a)(2) to FAR 12.205 and paragraph (b) of FAR 52.244-6, but a sub holding a document that cites DFARS 252.244-7000 needs the successor number to find the text a DoD contracting officer applies. The base records the same shape twice elsewhere, at 252.204-7020 and 252.227-7013. Correcting that field is a ruling and is left to one. Both regimes read against their primary sources 2026-08-09 and every element above re-read at source on 2026-08-11: the change date, the prescription, the thirteen interior spaces in the page source, the deviation tracking number, its effective date, the renumbering and the successor designation all held; only the parenthetical count above did not, and it is corrected in place (verified 2026-08-11)
This is research, not legal advice. It states what the regulation says about this clause and cites the paragraph behind it. It does not rule on your order, and it does not rule on whether a prime's markings are correct.
